Dr. Timothy Thomson, director of Indicasat AIP, visits Chiriqui to promote scientific research

David, Chiriquí, December 6, 2024. Researcher Timothy Thomson, director of the Institute of Scientific Research and High Technology Services of Panama (Indicasat AIP) made a one-day visit to the province of Chiriqui, with the aim of strengthening scientific collaboration in the western region.

During his agenda, he held a meeting with academic authorities from the Universidad Santa María La Antigua (USMA) to reaffirm their academic collaboration and discuss possible joint research projects. He was also able to learn about the progress of the Indicasat AIP laboratory that is being built in this higher education center.

On his scientific tour he also met with members of the Specialty Coffee Association of Panama (SCAP) to see the possibility of exploring new technologies and sustainable practices in specialty coffee production.

SCAP is a benchmark in the world of high-quality coffee. It has more than 50 active members, many of them international award winners. It is mainly located in Boquete, Chiriqui, a region recognized for its excellent conditions for growing coffee, and its objective is to promote and develop Panamanian specialty coffee internationally.

Dr. Timothy Thomson learned first-hand about the key elements to strengthen ties between the scientific community and the productive sector in order to strengthen research and innovation in the sector.
